Join Bernie Graham and Fred Linehan, ACA certified instructors, for a one-day Introduction to Coastal Kayaking course. The class covers basic strokes, boat control, launching and landing, wet exits, equipment, rescues and safety. Expect a safe and fun introduction to the sport of kayaking.
To participate you'll need a sea kayak with fore and aft bulkheads or flotation at both ends, a spray skirt, paddle and a PFD. If you have a wetsuit, bilge pump, paddle float and nose plugs, bring them along too.
You must be an ISK member (and logged in) to register for this event. If you are not a member click the "Member Signup" link at bottom of this page. The $15 annual fee gives you access to a year's worth of great club trips, classes, on-water demos, winter programming and more.
No refunds will be given for this event. Registrants who are unable to attend have the option of finding another participant to take their place.
If the class size minimum of 3 is not met by August 15, 2018, the class will be cancelled and a full refund will be made.
Please bring your own lunch rather than going out to eat as it saves time and allows us to keep instruction moving; bring enough water for the day also.
You'll want to bring a change of clothes for the end of the class as you will be wet a good portion of the day!
Taking this class will give you the basics needed to participate in the Fall Rendezvous on Lake Superior.
If you don't have a sea kayak and want to take the course, contact Bernie and he will attempt to locate one for you for a small fee.
