Grey Cloud Island Day Trip - November 15, 2003
It was a grey day when we headed south to paddle around Grey Cloud Island on Saturday. The Mississippi River blended with the sky, a fine mist making the horizon a blur. When our eyes adjusted for the fall hues, we were treated to beautiful scenery, with spikes of red and gold amidst the backdrop of grayness.
Temperatures stayed in the lower forties -- relative mild November weather -- which provided an opportunity for some to try out a variety of layers and hand gear to see what would keep them the most dry and warm. Ten of us paddled for about 3 1/2 hours. It was a fine day -- good paddling, good company and good conversation. We saw a couple of bald eagles and other water birds as well as a couple of running deer. We didn't expect quite the number of duck hunters out on the river, but only heard their shots once while we were nearby. We met up afterwards at a Hastings beer and burger joint to warm up and have lunch. See More Photos! P.O. Box 80331 ~ Minneapolis, Minnesota 55408 [contact us] |
