Trip Reports

February 22, 2003 Hidden Falls
The sky was blue and the temperature remained a steady 23 degrees. There was a light wind. Okay, the wind was a bit stiffer than that. Only four of us showed up at Hidden Falls today to get some paddling in. Sometimes, that's what happens. The cold inhibits you from getting your boat down from the rafters and onto your car; the mere thought of ice on your spray skirt gives you chills; and you haven't gotten yourself a good warm pair of pogies. Yeah, it happens. Or perhaps your taxes are looming, and you've realized that it's got to be done soon. And so you do that. But four of us decided to ignore all that stuff, and go out in our boats. Despite the fact that one person forgot his hat and one his paddle (there were spares, thankfully), it was a great decision. We kayaked up to the Ford Dam. The current was less strong than usual and the water level seemed low. The wind bit at our cheeks. We went up to the dam and poked around and then went back downstream, until the wind picked up and we knew coming back to the beach would be more of a challenge. We couldn't resist an after-paddle journey to Cecils Deli, of course, where we talked about the bigger issues of life -- whether to eat dessert or not -- and other great topics. It was really a super day.
