Danbury Weekend June 13-15 What a perfect weekend to paddle and enjoy Rhett's family cabin in Danbury, Wisconsin. We met at the Inside Out Cafe in Danbury for a quick (and greasy!) breakfast before setting out to paddle an 18-mile stretch of the St. Croix River. You couldn't ask for a better day to be on the water -- some clouds painted in a bright blue sky, 80 degrees, and an occasional breeze. The water was still a bit on the "refreshing" side so it worked quite well for an occasional cool down. In the evening we went to the cabin and enjoyed a feast of grilled food. There is never a risk of starvation on an ISK outing! For dessert Jeff and Laura roasted bananas for "Monkey Pickle Burritos." Believe it or not after all the eating seven of us found one last bit of energy and ventured out on the chain of lakes for a moonlight paddle. We paddled across some small lakes and the various streams that connect them to the middle of Tabor Lake where we watched the full moon rise over the trees. At times testing the limits of our night vision and memory of the route we managed to make it back to the cabin around 11:30 p.m. Sunday morning we had no choice but to maintain the food tradition and eat scrambled eggs, grilled steak, grill toasted bagels, and German chocolate cake for breakfast! Then it was back into the boats to further explore the chain of lakes and spend some time playing in the water under the sun. It would be a significant challenge to put together a better weekend! A huge thank you to Rhett for organizing this outing a being so generous in providing the fantastic accommodations. Also a big thanks to Laura and her Mom for providing shuttle service for the St. Croix paddle. - Aaron White P.O. Box 80331 ~ Minneapolis, Minnesota 55408 [contact us] |
