May 4 - ISK Cosponsors REI Boat Demo I think I start many trip reports with a comment about the weather. Maybe that's because the weather is such an integral part of kayaking -- wind speed, wind direction, wave height, what gear to wear in what conditions. But this time, my comments are more personal: All right, already. Give us a sunny day! Give us light and variable winds. Give us a day to remind us how beautiful and sunny this state is!
The boat demo must go on. REI brought the boats and gear to run the demo. They also brought the bagels and cream cheese. ISK brought their safety board and brochures. We also brought the coffee and juice. (A partnership built around food and kayaks?) Nine ISKers (plus two junior ISKers) came out to Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis to help with the demo. Nearly 100 people came by to demo boats. Given the gusting wind, it was remarkable that no more than 4 people capsized (and lost one cell phone and one pair of sorely needed eyeglasses). ISKers were there to help. The booth generated quite a bit of interest too. ISK safety cards were handed out and put on boats. It was a successful day. Copyright © 2004 Inland Sea Kayakers.
