June North Shore Weekend
A rainy spring has turned into a beautiful summer so far. I don't think there were too many complaints about the weather (nor the bugs, actually, since we were treated royally at the camp site with Dana's Cooke Custom Sewing screen house). We began the weekend by driving up to Cascade State Park where we had reserved a group camp site. It was perfect for the twelve of us. Those that arrived for dinner met at Cascade Lodge. By the time we settled back in at the camp site around a camp fire, all had arrived. On Saturday, we paddled a stretch of the north shore from Grand Marais south. We picnicked lunch on a grassy knoll and then some of us paddled a bit more. That night, we feasted on chili and cornbread. The sky was clear and we peeked at Mars through a telescope. Most of us slept well that night! Sunday we went out to breakfast on the way down to Split Rock State Park. Then we paddled past the light house and explored that area of the shore. It was a terrific weekend. Thanks! Want to see more photos? |
