Mississippi River: Hidden Falls to Boathouse March 18, 2001
We stood in the parking lot unloading boats and gear and the cars and pickups kept pulling into the lot. March 18th. Temperature in the forties. Blue beautiful skies. It felt like spring. The snow was melting and the day couldn't have been more wonderful for a paddle. We were 19 boats in all. Each boat was adorned with a green dyed flower on the bow. And downstream we went.
Prior to launching, we had a pre-trip meeting and determined a lead and sweep boat.
It was one of those days -- and we all know the kind of day I mean -- where the sun is bright, the skyline crisp, and you can't imagine being anywhere else but in your kayak, paddling downstream on the Mississippi.
