Lake Waconia - October 27th, 2001 After two days of gusty winds blowing through the Twin Cities, there was some uncertainty about how this Saturday's day trip on Lake Waconia would go. Lake Waconia can get some serious waves... When I woke up though, the sun was rising with hues matching the fall colors, the wind had died down, and I knew it would be a good day. We met at 10 a.m. at the public access and despite the thirty degree temperature (or maybe because of it), we were on the water quickly. We decided to paddle counter-clockwise around the lake, stopping on Coney Island for a picnic lunch. ![]() Group photo at lunch on Coney Island After a couple of hours, we stopped for lunch and picnicked in the woods to stay out of the wind. While finishing up the box of chocolates, a tiny round mouse with large ears (think gray mickey) joined our ring. The mouse stayed nearby and finally went off to his feast on a large turtle carcass we unknowingly were sitting near (go figure). After lunch, with temperatures rising into the forties and the winds picking up, we paddled back to the beach. More Waconia photos |
