Voyageur's National Park
by Jody Russell

The late August trip to Voyageur's National Park was led by Dana Dickson. Perfect weather and excellent company turned this trip into a huge success.

I could write to you about the great meals we had on this trip -- the effort that everyone made to plan a dinner to share, the lunch that turned into an event at the Kettle Falls Hotel, the chocolate that seemed to be everywhere and at every single meal, the breakfasts that were rib-sticking and full of surprise each morning...

Or I could write about the wildlife that turned the paddles into events of nature...the osprey, the bald eagles, the loons in display, the deer, the frogs, toads and crayfish spied one night sitting watching the night darken upon us...

Or I could write about the way the lakes of Voyageur's National Park are strangely co-habited by kayakers, power boaters and houseboaters, and how the balance of expectations and needs is difficult to meet in a place like Voyageurs, though I think it's possible...

Or I could write about the way army worms were creating a rain of debris in the campsite that was both magnificient and horrible...

Or I could write about paddling that was full of good conversation and laughter, whether it was in the daytime or during our full moon night paddle with glow-sticks shining off hats and PFDs...

But rather, I'd just like to say that I am once again amazed by how colorful and fun sea kayakers are, and how this all works together to make for wonderful adventures.
